Releases
Version 0.7.1
Works in any app with a text box: your screenshot and words go into the text field you were in, in your browser, a desktop app, an editor or a terminal.
Sends by itself in Claude (the app and claude.ai), plus Codex CLI or Claude Code in Terminal, after checking the text box holds exactly one screenshot and exactly your words. Everywhere else, including the ChatGPT app and chatgpt.com, Gemini, Grok, Cursor and iTerm2, Circl pastes the screenshot and your words and you press Return.
Text-only places, such as terminals other than Terminal and iTerm2, get your words and the file path of the screenshot.
Your clipboard comes back when Circl can confirm the paste went in; otherwise Restore Previous Clipboard, in Circl’s menu, brings it back.
Setup no longer asks which terminal you use.

Version 0.7.0
One loop: hold your shortcut or mouse button, circle part of the screen while you talk, and let go. Circl puts the screenshot and your words into your AI app, such as Codex or Claude Code in Terminal, and presses Return, so it starts working.
Circl presses Return only when it can see your AI app’s prompt holding your image and exactly your words. If anything is off, such as a plain shell, another window coming forward, or an edited prompt, it leaves the draft unsent and tells you why.
Review before sending in Settings stops before Return so you can send it yourself.
Press Esc at any point while circling to cancel; nothing is sent.
A new look: the listening circle, lasso and status messages were redesigned.
The in-app chat was removed. Circl no longer reads or sends old chat history or stored credentials; they stay on your Mac untouched.

Version 0.6.0
Keyless activation: download Circl, open it, and click Start 7-day free trial. Finish checkout in your browser and Circl activates automatically.
Started your trial on the website? Open Circl after installing and it picks it up, or choose Already started a trial? Activate. Restore purchase helps on a new Mac.
A trial countdown shows how many free days are left.
If a payment fails, Circl keeps working for 3 days and shows Update payment, which opens your billing portal.
Send feedback in about 5 seconds by voice: Circl transcribes it on your Mac and you edit it before sending. Only the text is sent.
Includes the unreleased 0.5.2 fixes: subscriptions renew in the background, so a paying subscriber is never asked to start a trial again; if renewal can’t reach the server, Circl says so and keeps your draft.
Activation works when your Mac’s clock is slow, and Circl tells you when the date and time look wrong.
Dictation falls back to another on-device language you have, such as US English, instead of failing, and tells you how to add your own language.
Open Circl at login, on by default after setup and changeable in Settings.
If you open Circl from the disk image, it offers to move to Applications, or opens the copy you already installed.
Return continues through setup, and the permissions step moves on by itself once everything is allowed.

A simpler main window and settings.

A scroll indicator in Settings.
Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

About these notes
Circl is a Mac app that works with any AI app: hold a shortcut, circle part of your screen while you say what you want, and let go. The screenshot and your words land in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or any other app with a text box. Circl sends them for you in Claude (the app and claude.ai), plus Codex CLI or Claude Code in Terminal; everywhere else it pastes them and you press Return. Speech is transcribed on your Mac. 7-day free trial, then $6.99/month; a card is required for the trial. Circl needs macOS 14 or later. All prices are in US dollars.
